Street Photography Workshop

with renowned photographer David Gibson

June 1 – 3, 2012, Amsterdam

David Gibson, one of the ‘world’s leading street photographers’ – as featured in Street Photography Now – and one of the founding members of iN-PUBLiC, the international street photographers’ collective, will be leading a 3-day street photography workshop in Amsterdam on Friday, June 1st through Sunday, June 3rd, 2012.

The workshop, to be held at the American Book Center’s ‘Treehouse’ – along with guided photo shoots on the streets of Amsterdam – will cover the history, meaning and aesthetics of street photography, a very popular genre that is best defined as ‘the drama on the streets, and the relationship between people and their environment’.

While the emphasis will be on set assignments and constructive feedback, the aim of the workshop is to provide inspiration, by looking at great street photographs and working first-hand with one of today’s most well-regarded street photographers.

Who is it for?

The 3-day workshop is for anyone with an interest in photography and particularly street photography. It is for both amateurs and more advanced photographers who might already be familiar with the work of Henri Cartier-Bresson, Garry Winogrand and Alex Webb.

Workshop specifics

Venue:

NOTE: Workshop limited to 18 participants, with photo shoots split into two groups.

Aims of the workshop:

-           To establish what street photography is,

-           To offer inspiration by looking at some of the great photographs from the 'masters' to lesser-known street photographers,

-           To interpret these street photographs and offer a tangible approach whereby participants might practice their own photography more fully and creatively,

-           To gain first-hand, practical experience from a well-regarded street photographer,

-           To stimulate debate about street photography and the issues around it,

-           To encourage participants to develop a more critical sense about their photography and a better ability to edit their work,

-           To understand the importance of themes and projects,

-           To meet like-minded people interested in street photography,

-           To provide an impetus to participants to continue taking successful street photographs after the workshop.
